Green Auto puts independent bands on the bill alongside touring acts, with its New & Known Band Showcase giving emerging players a way onto the stage. Its own programme stretches across a busy network of local bills—a useful starting point for following Vancouver’s smaller-room music scene.
ON THE BILL
Hillsboro
Formed in 2020, Vancouver quintet Hillsboro grew out of the Canadian DIY circuit around frontman Nima Walker. Their self-titled debut arrived in 2023, followed by White Trash on their own play dead label, with violin adding another voice to the guitar-led arrangements.
Guitar is the Portland project built around songwriter and producer Saia Kuli. After playing in Gary Supply and Nick Normal’s band, Kuli brought beatmaking into a new guitar-led outlet; the album We’re Headed to the Lake arrived through Julia’s War.
Vancouver’s tonk builds a country-minded catalogue around singer-songwriter Daniel Thow. Releases including Thanks for Waiting and Wildflower gather a wide circle of collaborators while keeping a homemade West Coast character, with fiddle, steel guitar and familiar song forms in the mix.
Philadelphia project Taurus Judge documents a collaborative writing and recording practice on A Thing Rolled Up. Written and engineered by Ian Norris, Cydney Berlinger and Josh Merkin, the six-track release was recorded in South Philadelphia and issued in June 2025.
